
Believe it or not, the very first water filled beds were made in Persia out of goatskins which were then filled with water over three thousand years ago.
Neil Arnott created a water filled bed for his patients at the St Bartholomew's Hospital. It was mainly for use in in the treatment and prevention of bed sores.
In the late 60s when vinyl was invented, the waterbed made its reappearance. The waterbed then began becoming widely used. Free Flowing waterbeds or wavy waterbeds became increasingly popular in the 1970s. People found it was a new experience and a very different approach to bed making.
By the mid 1980s free flowing waterbeds or wavy waterbeds became less and less popular. However, waterbeds are still around today, but with modern technology. And they are now wave-less.
