The Free Flow Waterbed Mattress

Just as the name Free Flow suggests, the free flow mattress allows the water to flow freely and there is not any motion reduction. This early waterbed mattress

setup did not contain any fibers which are used to reduce waves.

These early waterbed mattresses typicallyused waterbed bladders which were free flowing. When you sat on them they would sound like free flowing water. Basically these early waterbed mattresses were just plain bags of water which would create motions similar to waves when you moved around on them.

 Many have compared sleeping on the free flow mattress similar to sleeping on a boat or a raft in the water. When the free flow mattress was filled properly it allows quite a bit of motion, which typically will last from fifteen seconds and upwards.

After a time, people realized that they did not like this behavior as movement by one person starts the flow of the motion, which ends up being transferred to the other. This can lead to sleeping disturbances.

These free flow mattresses do not come with any mechanism to help keep the motion in balance. Due to this, many people realized how much they disliked the way the free flow mattresses behaved, thus the industry began development of the waveless waterbed.
